Professional Development: 3 Objectives
Objective 1:
Ability to identify and evaluate technology resources and technical assistance (i.e., those available on-line and on-site within a school and district setting). |
Objective 1 SummaryUsing Twitter, I was able to connect with, read, relate to other professionals in my area of teaching to identify new and innovative ways to use technology in the classroom. I was also able to examine the advantages and disadvantages of merging technology. This was an easy way to read blogs and post from very diverse educators to bring new ideas and gain technical assistance from professionals in their fields. Some of the new resources I found through Twitter included on-line magazines, other twitter handles, and research on technology tools being used in classrooms.
|
Objective 2:
Ability to assess advantages and limitations of current and emerging technologies, on-line resources and software to facilitate teaching and student learning. |
Objective 2 SummaryUsing Twitter, I was able to assess the usefulness and limitations of current and emerging technologies for on-line and software to empower my students' learning in the classroom. I was able to examine the advantages and disadvantages of both current and emerging technology. This experience also showed me that there is an endless amount of support and information at my fingertips simply with a click of a button.
|
Objective 3:
Ability to engage in professional growth and leadership activities, including modeling lifelong learning by participating in face to face and online learning communities to continuously improve professional practice using existing and emerging digital tools, resources, and current research that focuses on improved student learning, as well as promotes professional development of other educators. |
Objective 3 SummaryTwitter opens up many doors for educators to find out about how other educators are using technology in their classrooms. It provides educators a wealth of information on how to find professional development on any subject matter while allowing educators to share their ideas and thoughts too. Twitter allows educators to join professional magazines and organizations for free. As an educator, free is great because it offers me professional development to learning about technology in this era known as the digital divide without leaving my classroom or home. I could read and respond to up-coming professional development to helpful webinars or near by workshops. It allowed me to connect to other educators around the world gaining new teaching opportunities that are out there or simple reading blogs to grow professionally.

Professional Development Plan
At the beginning of this course I really did not know much about twitting or how to use it in my classroom. Since then I have learned much about different ways I can use it in my classroom and much on how I can grow professionally. Twitter opens up many doors for educators to find out about how other educators are using technology in their classrooms.
While twitting about the different topics assigned, I was about to read and join several twitter handles such as @edudemic or @edutopia @themathforum, or @NCTM. These bloggers or tweeters and many more provide insight into the technological savvy world that our students and are growing up in. I found these helpful in providing ways to connect to my students to engage them in new innovated ways.
In the future, I will use twitter for communication with parents, educators, and other professionals to share ideas about learning in classrooms. I will use twitter as a resource to find and read about professional articles in my teaching field and classroom management such as #TCMchat due to the information and ideas it provides for math educators. I will use #hashtags so that parents and students can stay connected and empower education in a direction that allow my students to read articles that may empower their learning and challenge them with new innovative strategies. I will use twitter for quick pop quizzes where students earn extra points. The uses for twitter and other on-line resources such as Kahoot are valuable and mostly free.
In summary, I will be a better educator by using twitter to empower learning in my classroom and as a professional by joining professional bloggers and twitter handles that allow me to communicate with other educators, parents, and students. It will help me to connect with educators around the world with best used practices for empowering learning and engaging students’ in the classroom.
